Broad and Flat Table of all properties

The ssoBFT is a broad and flat table that compiles all the property values of all the SSOs. It is intended to people who want to make statistics or plots on SSO properties.

The ssoBFT is available for donwload in Apache parquet and Enhanced Character Separated Values (eCSV) formats.

Both formats are supported in Python (pandas for Parquet and astropy for eCSV), or can be directly loaded in TOPCAT or using the java STIL library.

Metadata description

The ssoBFT is a very large table containing all the property values of all the SSOs. However, some fields are empty because there are no estimates of certain properties for certain SSOs, giving a fill factor of ~48% for asteroids, ~26% for comets, and ~38% for satellites. The fields of the ssoBFT are composed of the flattening of the data contained in the ssoCard. The following tables provide an overview of the metadata of all properties. Columns A, C, and S indicate whether the property is present for asteroids, comets, and satellites, respectively.

Usage and citation

The ssoBFT table is the result of a long and meticulous work of reading scientific articles (more than 3000) to extract the properties of the SSOs that compose the table. For any use of the table, we ask the citation of the article: Berthier et al., 2023.

The content of the ssoBFT would not exist without the scientific work of all the authors who have determined and published the properties of the SSOs. Whenever possible, please publish the bibliographic references of the articles from which the SSO properties you are using are derived. For that, you have to extract the bibref of the properties in the ssoCard of SSOs.
