How to do?

SsODNet . ssocard

Sso best estimates of properties

How to use SsODNet.ssocard?

The best friendly way to get best estimates of SSO properties is to use the “rocks” API. This is a command-line Python software allowing to request properties with simple and natural commands. Read the documentation for more information and tutorials.

Another way to get the best estimates of properties is to use the SsODNet.ssocard API.

How to get SSO best estimates?

The best estimates of properties are grouped in JSON documents named ssoCard. To get the ssoCard of a given SSO, send a request to the SsODNet.ssocard method.

Examples:

  • Ceres best properties with the HTTP request
  • 1989 YK8 best properties with the REST API

How to get all measurements of properties?

Ordered list of methods used to compute the best-estimate of properties

We describe hereafter how the preferential order is defined for each property. Exceptions to this scheme of averaging are family membership, albedo, taxonomy, and orbital elements of SSOs. More info in Berthier+2023.

Ranking of methods for diameter estimates

The order favors direct measurements first, then estimates based on 3D shape models, followed by direct measurements limited to a single geometry. Last are indirect estimates from thermal model of spheres.

1SPACE
2ADAM, KOALA, SAGE, Radar
3LC+Occ, LC+IM, LC+TPM, TPM, TE-IM, TE-Occ

7Polarimetry

Selection order for albedo determinations

The order favors space measurements on other techniques, for which the albedo is derived by combining a diameter estimate with the absolute magnitude at visible wavelength.

1SPACE
2Polarimetry

Selection order for mass determinations

The order favors spacecraft encounters, followed by binary systems. Last are estimates based on long-distance gravitational interactions and Yarkovsky drift.

3Bin-IM, Bin-Radar, Bin-PheMu
4Deflect, Ephem
5Yarkovsky

Ranking of methods for spin properties

The order favors solutions from spacecrafts encounters, followed by 3D shape modeling, ranked from modeling including direct measurement to scaling of 3d convex models, to convex model of arbitrary size. Simple ellispoids follow, and finally periods from lightcurves.

Selection order for colors

The order favors absolute magnitude, over lightcurve-corrected, over apparent magnitude.
OrderMethods
1Absolute
2Lightcurve corrected
3Apparent

Ranking of methods for thermal properties

The order favors estimates from space mission encounters, then thermophysical models based on 3D shapes. Last are estimates from thermophysical models based on limited shape/spin information.
OrderMethods
1SPACE
2LCI-TPM, LCI+TPM
3TPM
4Yarkovsky drift

Selection order for Yarkovsky drift

The order favors solutions using a combinaison of optical and radar observations over optical-only data sets. Last are estimates based on family ages.
OrderMethods

1Astrometry(O+R)
2Astrometry(O)
3Family age
